Introduce vocabulary
- Show the flashcard of a hen. Tell pupils: This is a hen. What does a hen
say? Have the class do the "cluck, cluck" sound together.
- Repeat: This is a hen. The hen says CLUCK! Chant this sentence a few
times while slapping your thighs to the rhythm.
- Do the same for duck, cow and horse.
- Ask pupils questions about each animal: What color is it? Is it big?
Is it small?
- Ask about each animal: Where does it live?
Then model the response: It lives on a farm.
- Ask pupils what other animals live on a farm. Elicit: cat, dog, sheep, etc.

The Letter D
- Add the wordcard for each of the animal pictures. Elicit the first letter and
sound of each word. Ask pupils which two animals have the same
beginning sound (dog, duck).
- Show pupils the letter D. Ask pupils what other words they know that begin
with the sound /d/. Elicit: dog, duck, donkey, door, desk, dominoes, names
of children - Dan, Dana, Dina.
- Chant with the whole class: The letter is D, the sound is /d/.
- Sing Dog and Duck (song #2.39).
- Ask a pupil to find the letter D on the ABC strip.

Discuss farms and what is grown on a farm. Brainstorm with pupils.
- Tell pupils that wheat is grown on a farm.
- Use the flashcard to teach the word wheat.
- Ask pupils: What do we make with wheat? Elicit: bread, cakes, cookies,
spaghetti, etc.

Tell pupils that people on farms work very hard.
- Ask pupils: What kinds of work are done on a farm?
- Ask pupils if animals work on a farm.
