Tell pupils: Open the Activity Book to page 44.
- Ask pupils: What is on this page? Help pupils realize that it is a story.
Have pupils look at the pictures and say what the story is about. Look
together at the title.
- Help pupils to read the title. How does the title help to understand what will
happen in the story?
- Did anyone in the class ever lose a cat inside the house? Where was the cat?
- Ask pupils to find the sentence Where is the cat? within the story and circle
the sentence.
- Ask pupils to underline the words the and is in green. How many words
did they find? In which lines? Read the lines. Do the same for in, on, cat,
boy using different colors. Ask pupils to find the words sad and happy. Ask
pupils: What sound does happy begin with? Which letter?
Reading the Story
- Read the story aloud. Pupils should use their fingers to follow along,
reading together with you. Stop occasionally and have pupils fill in the
missing word. Read very expressively. Use facial expressions and gestures:
The pot is hot!
- Now ask for volunteers to read a line. Have a different pupil read each line.
After Reading
- Ask pupils questions about the story: Was this story happy or sad? Who
were the characters in the story? Why was the man sad? Was the
cat in the pot? Where was the cat? Pupils may decorate and color the
story if time permits.
- Ask pupils if it was difficult for them to read the story. Ask them if they liked
the story.
- Encourage pupils to tear out the page, take it home and read the story to
their family.
Acting Out the Story
- Ask each group to read the story and act it out in front of the class.

Note: Practice opposites with pictures and objects before you begin.
