Water Soup
It is a normal day in Hillside Village. The people in the village are hungry. They do not
have a lot of food. That afternoon, a visitor comes to the village. He tells the people that
he can cook “water soup” for them. He only needs a pot (ﻃﻨﺠﺮة/)סיר, a stove, and some
water.

“There is a stove and a pot in my kitchen at home,” says an old woman. She takes the
visitor to her home and into her kitchen. The village people come, too. When they arrive,
the visitor puts water in the pot and puts the pot on the stove. Soon, the water is hot.
“Water soup is good, but water soup with carrots is better,” says thee visitor.

“There are carrots in my refrigerator!” says an old man. He goes and
brings the carrots.
“Good! Now we need a knife to cut the carrots,” says the visitor.
“There is a knife in my kitchen drawer,” says another woman.
She goes and brings the knife.

“Amazing! Water soup with carrots is good, but water soup with carrots
and onions is better,” says the visitor.
“There are onions in my kitchen,” says a man. He goes and brings the onions.
“Great! Now we just need a spoon to mix everything,” says the visitor.
“There is a spoon in my room!” says a girl. She goes to her room and brings the spoon.
She mixes the soup.

“OK, the soup is ready. We just need some bowls so that everyone can eat the soup,”
says the visitor.
“There are bowls on my table at home,” says a boy. He brings the bowls from his home.
Everyone gets a bowl of soup. The soup is good, and the people of Hillside Village
are happy.

Now, whenever the people of Hillside Village are hungry, they make “water soup.”
