Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): always, cook, cow, fruit, garden, grow,
never, often, sometimes, tomato, usually, vegetables.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
Context Clues (VA #22)
Have pupils work in small groups/pairs to choose at least 4 words form the list. They should write
one sentence in English using each word in their notebooks.
When pupils are finished, say the words one by one and ask volunteers to read the sentences they
wrote. If no pupil/group chose a particular word, create a sentence together as a class.
Vocabulary
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: countryside, enough, farm, farmer, field, machine, pick,
type.
Remind the pupils that they have already learned about a different type of field (sports, football,
etc.). Explain that this is a different type of field. Use the words ‘farm’, ‘farmer’, ‘grow’, etc. to review
words in context. For example: The farmer grows vegetables in the field.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 70/71.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – New Phonics Pattern
•
Tell pupils that in words that contain y-e , the Y makes the long /I/ sound, as in the word: type.
•
Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘type’ have? (Elicit: 1)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /type/ ‘type’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Remind pupils that the Long I sound with the Magic E also makes the sound /I/, as in the words: side,
knife, life.
Vocab Activity
•
Word Association (VA #4)
Say one of the vocabulary words and have pupils respond with other words, phrases, or sentences
that they associate with it.
Accept any logical answer.
Play a few rounds to practice different words.
