Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): butter, countryside, cream, enough,
factory, farm, farmer, field, machine, pick, type, yogurt.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
The Longest Sentence (VA #17)
Have pupils work in small groups/pairs to write a sentence that uses as many review words as they
can (logically). Give an example to demonstrate: The factory uses machines to make many types of
butter, milk, yogurt, and cream.
When they are finished, have groups/pairs share their sentence with the class. The group with the
sentence that uses the most reviewed words wins.

Review

Review the vocabulary using the word cards: bag, buy, food, money, shop, store.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit (in L1 if needed): shopping for food, etc.
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: flour, garlic, orange, pay, price, salt, sauce, sell, sugar,
supermarket.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit (in L1 if needed): food, shopping
Ask pupils which of the new words are things that someone can buy at a supermarket.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 76/77.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – Phonics Review
•
Remind pupils that the letter combination 'ou' and 'ow' make the same sound in English. The 'ou' sound
/ou/, as in the words: flour, our, hour and the 'ow' sound /ou/, as in the words: shower, flower.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: flour

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘flour’ have? (Elicit: 1)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /flour/ ‘flour’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Write on the board: flour and flower. Underline the /ou/ sound using a red marker.
Ask pupils for sentences using the words flour or flower. (Accept any logical answer)
