Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: cheap, half-price, list.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on page 80.
Ask pupils: What types of lists can you think of? (shopping list, packing list, school supply list, etc.)

Divide pupils into groups. Have each group write a list titled “Dos and Don’ts at the Supermarket”. The
list should have at least three Dos and three Don’ts.

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is a list and point out the features of the text
type (numbers on the left side, the text is made up of different items, items are arranged vertically, etc.).

Read the text together with the pupils.
•
After reading, ask the pupils which ideas on the list were new to them, and which ideas on the list they
knew on their own. Ask the pupils who does the shopping in their house, and do they think the person
who does the shopping follows the advice from the text.

Have pupils choose the correct word to complete the sentence, according to the text.

Have pupils say if the answer to the question is found in the text, or if it is not found in the text. If the
answer to the question is found in the text, find the sentence in the text that includes the answer.

Read the questions with class.
Have pupils talk to a partner to answer the question.

Have pupils complete the tasks. Review the instructions for each task before allowing pupils to work on
their own or with a partner/small group.
