Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): cheap, flour, garlic, half-price, list,
orange, pay, price, salt, sauce, sell, sugar, supermarket.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
Yes or No (VA #7)
Say a true or a false statement about one of the words. For example: People buy food at the
supermarket. or Salt is sweet. Have pupils say "Yes" or "No" to indicate if the sentence is true or
false.
For false statements, encourage pupils to correct the sentence.
Repeat to practice all the words.
Play a few rounds to practice different words. The teacher may choose a volunteer to lead.
More challenged pupils may use gestures to indicate “Yes” or “No”

Review

Review the vocabulary using the word cards: restaurant, plate, sauce, stove, cook, meal, lunch, dinner.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit any logical response, including: food, eating,
cooking, etc.
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: customer, chef, lunchtime, noon, potato, steak, waiter,
waitress, Would you like…?
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit: food, restaurant
Ask different pupils: What restaurants are in your city/town/village? What types of food can you get
at a restaurant?
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 82/83.

•
Tell pupils that the digraph ‘ch’ sometimes makes the /sh/ sound, as in the words: chef, machine.
Remind pupils that the ‘ch’ usually make the /ch/ sound, as in the words: cheap, choose.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: chef

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘chef’ have? (Elicit: 1)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /chef/ ‘chef’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
