Grammar Activity
•
Do the activity to practice Present Simple (wh- questions).
•
Pass the Ball (VA #6)
Toss a soft ball or object to a pupil and ask a wh- question. Have the pupil respond before passing
the ball to another pupil and ask the question again.
After a few pupils passed the ball, change the question.
Continue until each pupil has answered at least one question.
Alternatively, call up a pupil to ask the questions. After the pupil has asked several questions and
other pupils have answered, call up another pupil to ask the questions.

Remind pupils to use the Grammar section on the page to help them with the following tasks.

Have pupils answer the questions about themselves.
Course Book page 85, task 9
•
Have pupils practice the dialogue with a friend. Invite pairs to perform the dialogue for the class. More
advanced pupils can replace steak and salad with different foods.

Tell pupils to imagine that they are at a restaurant with a friend. Have pupils write 2 questions that they
would ask the waiter or that they would ask their friend.
•
Writing Tip: Tell pupils that questions start with a capital letter and end with a question mark.

Have pupils complete the tasks. Review the instructions for each task before allowing pupils to work on
their own or with a partner/small group.

When pupils are finished, check answers.

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: enjoy yourself, grill, supper.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit: a meal
Ask pupils: What can you grill? Elicit: steak, chicken, vegetables, etc. Accept any logical answer.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on page 86.
