Begin by putting two words on the board that will become the categories: people vs. things
Divide the class into two teams. Each team sends a pupil to the board to write one of the vocabulary
words under the category. Tell pupils that maybe not every word fits into one of the categories.
Teams receive points for each word placed under the correct category. You may choose to give
bonus points for correct spelling.
To challenge strong pupils, introduce sub- categories: i.e., things: food, items in the kitchen and
people can be drilled down into job: chef, waiter etc

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is an interview and point out the features of
the text type (question answer format, two speakers, etc.).
Read the questions together. Have pupils answer them. Accept any logical answers.
Have pupils look at the text. Point out that there are questions and answers. Elicit that this is an
interview.
Have pupils look at the picture and predict who is being interviewed.
