Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): be careful, chef, competition, count,
empty, full, gram, ingredient, lose, must, pour, prepare, slowly, thick, thin, slice, win, yogurt.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
Context Clues (VA #22)
Have pupils work in small groups/pairs to choose at least 4 words from the list. They should write
one sentence in English using each word in their notebooks.
When pupils are finished, say the words one by one and ask volunteers to read the sentences they
wrote. If no pupil/group chose a particular word, create a sentence together as a class.
Vocabulary
New
•
Before teaching the new words, remind the pupils of the different topics in the unit: farm, supermarket,
restaurant, home cooking, etc.
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: action, during, hope, judge, large, perfect, prize,
program, terrible, unhappy.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 94-95.
Ask: What do you think part 5 is about? (Accept any logical answer)
Ready to Read with Words I Know – New Phonics Pattern
•
Tell pupils that the letters ‘-le‘ /l/ in English, as in the words: terrible, little, bicycle.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: terrible

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘terrible’ have? (Elicit: 3)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /ter/ /ri/ /ble/ ‘terrible’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.

hope, ingredients, interesting, judge, large, lose, perfect, prize, program, soup, terrible, unhappy, watch,
win.

Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
One at a Time (VA #24)
Divide the class into two teams and line them up.
Whisper a vocabulary word to the first pupil in each line.
Each pupil whispers the word down the line. The last pupil must say the word and use it in a
sentence. After each word, rotate the pupil at the end of the line.
Teams earn points for correct answers. Play a few rounds to practice different words.
