Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): action, butter, cake, competition,
during, hope, large, orange, perfect, salt, show, slice, sugar, sweet, terrible, unhappy, welcome, winner.

Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.

Word Web (VA #10)
Draw a word web with the word "ingredients" in the center.
In their notebooks, have pupils copy the word web and write at least
three vocabulary words around it that relate to the center word. Pupils
ingredients
can choose any words they associate with the center word. For
example, exercise, vegetables, sleep etc.
Repeat to create another word web for: sweet.
Have pupils work in partners or small groups. When pupils are finished, ask each group to share a
word web with the class.
Alternatively, say the word and then call on three pupils to give three associated words.

Before reading, have a class discussion about cooking competitions on television. Ask pupils: What
cooking competitions do you know? Do you like to watch them? Why or why not?

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is a dialogue. Have pupils identify who the
characters in the dialogue are (Ron, Alex, Jade, Zoya)

Have pupils look at the text and make predictions about what happens in the text based on the
pictures and text type. Determine that this is a TV program that is a cake competition.
Read the text together with the pupils.
