Review

Review the vocabulary using the word cards: book, classroom, English, learn, lesson, letter, read, school,
teacher, write, word.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit (in L1 if needed): things in school
Ask pupils: What other things do you have in school? What do you do at school?
New

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: alphabet, class, Do you mind…? loud, noise, notebook,
page, sentence, student, task, write sth down.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Determine that they are all words associated with
school (use L1 if needed).
Ask: How do you say the new words in L1? Which new words sound the same in your language?
Review the English alphabet. If pupils know the alphabet song, sing it together.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 110/111.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – Phonics Review

Remind pupils that the Magic E in English changes the vowel sound to say its name, but we don’t hear
the E. Remind pupils that the Long A sound with the Magic E makes the sound /A/, as in the words:
plate, page.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: page

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘page’ have? (Elicit: 1)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /page/ ‘page’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Elicit other words pupils know with these sounds.

Play the video a second time and have pupils sing and dance along.
Class Discussion

Ask pupils the following questions. Encourage responses in English and emphasize the target vocabulary
in the pupils' answers. Reassure pupils that there is not one correct answer.
1. What do you think of when you think of school? (Elicit any logical response, in L1 if needed, e.g.,
teachers, friends, learning things, science, etc.)
2. Do you think that it is important for kids to go to school? Why or why not?
3. What do you like about school? What don’t you like?
