Listening Script Unit 3 Page 111 #4
Teacher: Good morning class! Are you ready for our first writing task?
Class: Yes!
Teacher: Great! Open your notebooks. Take out your pencils. Think about something
that makes a loud noise. Then, write it down. There are many things that make
loud noises. For example, an airplane that is flying above you or an animal that is
telling you that it is hungry. Write a sentence about something that makes a loud
noise. (Pause) I see some interesting sentences. Who wants to read their sentence
to the class?
Alex!
Alex: The train is loud when it travels really fast.
Teacher: Good sentence, Alex. I take the train to school every day. It can be really
loud. Zoya, you are next.
Zoya: Cats can make loud noises when they are hungry.
Teacher: Great sentence! Cats do make terrible noises when they are hungry. Jade, do
you want to read your sentence?
Jade: Yes, I do. My favorite band plays loud music at their shows.
Teacher: Very good Jade! I know you love music! Let’s hear Amir’s sentence.
Amir: The wind is very strong and loud today.
Teacher: You are right, Amir. It is a very windy day! Now, open your notebook to a
new page so we can start our next task.

•
Use the sentence pyramid to practice reading for fluency. Have pupils read the lines of the sentence
pyramid aloud until they say a full sentence. Have pupils practice pronouncing the words in the sentence
accurately and assess them for fluency skills. Repeat the reading practice twice.
•
To practice fluency, have the pupils repeat the reading practice in different ways, for example
whispering, singing, speaking as if they are someone else (the teacher, the principal, etc.).
•
Have pupils find the words that have the Magic E a_e.
Workbook pages 138-139
•
Have pupils complete the tasks. Review the instructions for each task before allowing pupils to work on
their own or with a partner/small group.
