Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): alphabet, boring, class, noise, notebook,
page, sentence, spell, student, task, write sth down, really, answer, hope, don’t worry, slowly,
instructions, program.

Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
One at a Time (VA #24)
Show the review words or hide them for a challenge.
Choose a word. Don’t tell the pupils the word you chose. Begin by writing the first letter of the word
on the board. Have pupils guess which word you are writing. After a few seconds, if pupils haven’t
guessed correctly, add the second letter. Continue until pupils guess the word, or you have written
the complete word on the board.
Play a few rounds to practice different words. The teacher may choose a volunteer to lead.
Vocabulary
New

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: clear, correct, exam, hard, homework, knowledge,
pass, question, remember to do something, study, wrong.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit (in L1 if needed): school, homework, exams
Ask different pupils: Do your teachers give you a lot of homework? Do your teachers give hard
exams?
Point out to pupils that the word "pass" in English has two meanings. Give sentences to illustrate the
two meanings: I can pass the football. I can pass the exam.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 116/117.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – New Phonics Pattern

Tell pupils that the letters "-dge" at the end of a word makes the sound /j/ in English, as in the words:
fridge, knowledge.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: knowledge

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘knowledge’ have? (Elicit: 2)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /know/ /ledge/ ‘knowledge’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Elicit other words pupils know with this pattern.
