Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): agree, all sorts of sth, any, as well as,
best, council, decide, decision, each, excellent, friend, fun, Guess what! How about?, join, member,
mistake, president, really, smile.

Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
Context Clues (VA #22)
Have pupils work in small groups to choose at least 4 words from the list. They should write one
sentence in English using each word in their notebooks.
When pupils are finished, say the words one by one and ask volunteers to read the sentences they
wrote. If no pupil/group chose a particular word, create a sentence together as a class.
Vocabulary
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: alone, conversation, each other, exactly, friendship,
laugh, person, selfie, somebody, spare time.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit any logical response, including: friends, things
you do with friends
Ask different pupils: Do you like to act/dance/watch movies or shows? Do you like to go to the
cinema/theater?
For each word, ask pupils to say if the word is a verb (action word), or noun (person, place, or thing).
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 128/129.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – New Phonics Pattern
•
Tell pupils that the letters "er" make the sound /er/ in English as in the words, conversation, person.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: conversation, person

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘conversation’ have? (Elicit: 4)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /con/ /ver/ /sa/ /tion/ ‘conversation’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Repeat with the word ‘person’.
Ask pupils what other words they know with this pattern.

Yes or No (VA #7)
Say a true or a false statement about one of the words. For example: You can have a conversation
with a toothbrush. or You laugh when you are sad. Have pupils say "Yes" or "No" to indicate if the
sentence is true or false.
For false statements, encourage pupils to correct the sentence.
