Before teaching the grammar form, say the following sentences. I see a notebook. I see notebooks.

Ask pupils to identify which word in the sentences is not the same. (Elicit: notebook/notebooks)
Determine that the second word has an -s on the end.
Tell pupils that they will learn about plural nouns in English (Use L1 if needed).
Introduce plural nouns
Remind pupils that a noun is a person (student), place (school), or thing (notebook).
Explain plural nouns are made by changing the end of the word.

Explain that plural nouns are usually made by adding -s to the end of a word. Give the examples: one
student, two students; one notebook, two notebooks.
•
Tell pupils that some nouns are irregular. They do not have the same rules for plurals.
•
Give the examples: one man, two men; one woman, two women; one child, two children; one foot,
two feet.
•

Ask pupils to compare plurals in English and in their own language. How are they the same or different?
