Ask pupils for other examples of count nouns.
Introduce Noncount Nouns.
Tell pupils that there are nouns that we can’t count. Give the examples: water, salt, information.
Explain that noncount nouns are things that we can’t count. We can’t say two waters, ten salts, three
informations.
Ask pupils to identify the Noncount Nouns in the sentences. (Elicit: knowledge, music)
Tell pupils that noncount nouns are always in the singular, not in the plural. Give the examples: The
teacher is sharing her knowledge of science. I like to listen to music. The water is hot. I need to finish
the homework. There is sugar in the bowl.

Before teaching the grammar form, ask pupils to look at the sentences in the Course Book.

Ask pupils to identify the nouns in the sentences (Elicit: books, homework).
Ask pupils which noun is a count noun (Elicit: books) and which is a noncount noun (Elicit:
homework).
Introduce the quantifiers: some, any
Tell pupils that we use the words “any” and “some” to describe how much you have of something
(Use L1 if needed).
Tell pupils that “some” and “any” are used before a count plural noun or a noncount noun.
Remind pupils that the word “some” is used if there are a few of something. Give the examples:
some notebooks, some milk.
Tell pupils that “some” is used in positive sentences. Give the examples: I have some toys. I have
some information.
Tell pupils that “any” is used in negative sentences. Give the examples: I don’t have any potatoes. I
don’t have any homework.
