BINGO (VA #3)
Have pupils draw a 3x3 grid in their notebooks (creating 9 squares) and write any review word they
choose in the squares.
Play BINGO by saying a word and have pupils mark if they have that word on their BINGO grid.
Record the words you say on the board.
Continue saying words until a pupil gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) and
calls: BINGO! Check the winning words against the list on the board.

Have pupils work with a partner or small group to scan the text on pages 130-135 in their Course
Books. Give pupils the clues below and have pupils write down where they found each picture or
word (page number). More than one possibility for some clues is possible.
1. Find a picture of a student
2. Find a picture of two boys having a conversation.
3. Find a picture of a boy writing something.
4. Find the word "president."
5. Find the word "mistake."

Show the text The Perfect Person for President.
•
Before reading, have the pupils make predictions about what the story might be about. Have pupils
predict what happens to the students at school based on the pictures.

Ask the pupils comprehension questions while reading:
Page 140-141: What grade is Ned in? (Grade six) Is Ned studying alone, or with friends? (Alone)

join their game? (Yes) Who is Cam? (He is a new student.) Where does Cam find an empty desk?

Page 142-143: What does Ned say they are doing tomorrow at school? (Choosing a new president
for student council) Who does Cam think should be the president of student council? (Ned) Why
does Ned think that he can’t be the president? (Because he is not popular) What do Cam and Ned
make at Ned’s house? (A sign)
Page 144-145: How many other students want to be the president? (Two) What does Ned say to
the class? (He knows a lot about the school and can make decisions that are best for everyone.)
What do the students write on their papers? (The name of the person they think should be the
president.) Who is the new president? (Ned) What is different for Ned after the kids choose him to
be president? (He is never alone, kids want to study with him, kids want him to join their football
game, etc.) Do you think that Ned is happy that he is the president? (Yes)
