Explain that in order to make a wh- question in the Past Simple, the wh- question word is said in the
beginning of the sentence. The wh- question word is followed by did, the pronoun, and then the
verb: Wh- question word+did+pronoun+verb. Use L1 if needed.
Show how these questions are different from the other Past Simple questions by giving the
examples: Did you meet the king? New: When did you meet the king? Why did you meet the king?
Give example sentences for different wh- words: Where did you go today? What did they do at the
library?

After listening, show some of the images from the video and ask questions mentioned in the song (For
example: Did he paint a picture?). Have pupils give the correct response to the question in the Past
Simple: Yes, he did. / No, he did not.
Grammar Activity

Do the activity to practice the form: Past Simple (questions)
•
Pass the Ball (VA #6)
Toss a soft ball or object to a pupil and ask a question in the Past Simple, for example: Did you eat
breakfast this morning? What did you do after school yesterday? etc. Have the pupil respond using
the Past Simple before passing the ball to another pupil and asking the question again.
After the ball has been passed to a few pupils, change the question.
Continue until each pupil has answered at least one question.
