Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on page 178.
Vocab Activity

Do the activity to review and practice the vocabulary (show the word cards): ago, astronaut, boring,
excited, happen, immediately, prepare, probably, race, scientist, space, sure.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
Guess What (VA #14)
Choose a word from the reviewed words (for example, “astronaut”). Don’t tell the pupil the word
you chose. Give a clue about the word using vocabulary the pupils know, e.g., A person that goes
into space.
Have the pupils identify the correct word. For each incorrect guess, add another clue, e.g., They can
also go to the Moon. (Elicit: An astronaut)
Play a few rounds to practice different words. The teacher may choose a volunteer to lead.

Before reading, have pupils work with a partner to write the questions that they would like to ask if they
were interviewing an astronaut.

Have pupils complete the peer assessment checklist found in the workbook on page 280.

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is an interview. Have pupils determine who is
being interviewed (an astronaut (Max Walker))

Read the text together with the pupils.
•
After reading, ask pupils about the information in the text: Did Max Walker always want to be an
astronaut? Does Max Walker have kids? What did Max Walker do when he came home?
•
Have pupils perform the interview in pairs. Have pairs of pupils perform 2 or 3 of the questions and
answers for the class, until all the questions and answers have been performed.
