Have pupils complete the tasks. Review the instructions for each task before allowing pupils to work on
their own or with a partner/small group.

Use the scenario to introduce the new grammar point.
•
Ask pupils to look at the sentences in the Course Book.
•
Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs.
Ask pupils: What do you think the surprise will be?
Ask pupils to identify the subjects and verbs in the sentences.
Point out to pupils that each sentence has “will”. Ask pupils to identify where it is in the sentences.
Then, ask pupils what they think this means.
Ask pupils if they remember where they have seen the word ‘will’ before? (Elicit: that ‘will be’
already taught and ask for the meaning. Use L1 if needed.
Remind pupils that they have already learned Present Simple and Past Simple. Introduce Future Simple
(positive).
Explain the Future Simple (positive) is used to talk about things that will happen in the future (use L1
if needed).
Explain that in order to say that something will happen, we use the word will + VERB (use L1 if
needed).

Give example sentences for each pronoun in Future Simple (positive): I will send an invitation., You will
send an invitation., He will send an invitation., etc.

Introduce Future Simple (negative).
Explain the Future Simple (negative) is used to talk about things that will not happen in the future
(use L1 if needed).
Explain that in order to say that something will not happen, we use the word will not + VERB (use L1
if needed).

Give example sentences for each pronoun in Future Simple (negative): I will not send a letter., You will
not send a letter., He will not send a letter., etc.

Explain that sometimes we use expressions of time in the Future Simple to help describe when the
action will be happening. These include: tomorrow, tonight, next week/month/year/weekend, later,
etc. Give example sentences: I will go to the party tomorrow., She will not go to the same school next
year., etc.

Explain that there is a short form for each pronoun in Future Simple (positive). The short form is the
