Tic Tac Toe (VA #27)
Draw a 3x3 grid on the board (making 9 squares). Write one word in each square.
Divide the class into two teams. Play Tic Tac Toe, but in order to place an X or O on the board, the
team (or a volunteer from the team) must say a sentence using the given word.
Repeat until one team gets three in a row to win the game.
Repeat with a new gameboard to practice different words.
Vocabulary
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: describe, experience, guess, guest, include, noisy,
shout, thought, too much / so much, yet.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 196/197.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – New Phonics Pattern
•
Tell pupils that the letters 'oi' make the /oi/ sound in English, as in the words: noisy, join, or toilet.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: noisy
-
Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘noisy’ have? (Elicit: 2)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /noi/ /sy/ ‘noisy’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review and practice the vocabulary (show the word cards): describe, experience,
guess, guest, include, noisy, shout, thought, too much / so much, yet.
•
Whisper Chain (VA #29)
The activity can be done as a whole class or as a team/small group competition.
Divide the class into two teams and line them up.
Whisper a vocabulary word or a phrase/sentence that includes a vocabulary word to the first pupil in
each line.
Each pupil whispers the word down the line. The last pupil must say the word aloud and use it in a
sentence. After each word, rotate the pupil at the end of the line.
Teams earn points for correct answers. Play a few rounds to practice different words.
Course Book pages 196-197

•
Ask pupils: What do you see? (Accept any logical answer). Remind pupils to use the review words as well
as new words on the page to help them. Write correct answers on the board as pupils give them.
•
Note: Pupils should respond using full sentences. Less strong pupils can respond at a word level.
Have pupils answer the questions based on the picture.
