Remind pupils to use the Grammar section on the page to help them with the following tasks.

Have pupils match the beginning of the sentence in column A to the end of the sentence in column B.

Read the text one line at a time. The pupils read the line out loud together as a group.

Repeat for each line of the text.

To practice fluency: Read a sentence from the text, using a different or more dramatic tone and
expression. Have pupils repeat the sentence that you have read, mimicking the tone and expression.

Tell pupils that there are spelling rules for Comparative and Superlative Adjectives.
Explain that if the adjective ends in “e”, we add “r” or “st”. Give the example: wide, wider, widest.
Explain that if the adjective ends in “y”, we take off the “y” and add “ier” or “iest”. Give the example:
early, earlier, earliest.
Explain that if the adjective has one vowel, we double that last letter and add “er” or “est”. Give the
example: thin, thinner, thinnest.
Explain that some words are exceptions to this rule, and that the comparative and superlative forms
do not end in “er” or “est”. Give the examples: good, better, best and bad, worse, the worst.
Elicit other adjectives from the pupils. Write the adjectives on the board and then ask pupils how to
write them in the comparative and superlative forms, using the rules that they just learned.

Have pupils find groups of comparative adjectives.

Have pupils choose the correct word task 8 to complete the sentences.
Course Book page 205, task 10

Have pupils ask the riddle aloud to a friend and answer the question together. Pupils can turn their
books upside down to reveal the answer to the riddle.

Have pupils complete the tasks. Review the instructions for each task before allowing pupils to work on
their own or with a partner/small group.

When pupils are finished, check answers.
