APPENDIX II – Fluency Activities
1. Two Truths and a Lie
•
Play as a class or in smaller groups.
•
Have each pupil tell two true statements and one false statement about themselves.
•
Have the other pupils in the class/groups guess which statement is false.
2. Real Life Role Play
•
Prepare cards with real life situations, for example: ordering food at a café, trying to find an
item in a store, asking for directions, etc.
•
Each pair of pupils chooses a card and has a few minutes to prepare their role play.
•
Each pair presents their role play to the class.
3. Describe and Draw
•
Have one pupils describe a scene and have another pupil, or the teacher, draw it on the board as
the pupil is describing it. Alternatively, have the pupils do this in pairs, where one describes the
scene and one draws.
•
Variation: Give a topic to the pupil who is giving the description, such as: your bedroom, our
classroom, a crowded bus, etc.
4. Chain Story
•
Start telling a story.
•
Have each pupil add one sentence to continue the story.
5. Find Someone Who…
•
Prepare a sheet listing various characteristics, for example: speaks another language, plays
the guitar, likes to eat yogurt for breakfast, their birthday is in January, etc.
•
Have pupils walk around the class and ask questions to other pupils in order to find one
person that matches each characteristic. When they find a pupil who matches the
characteristic, that pupil signs their name next to that sentence.
•
The pupil who is the first to find other pupils that match all of the characteristics wins. Or,
continue until every pupil has finished.
