Write the vowels a e i o u on the board and review that each vowel can make two sounds: a short sound,
/a/ /e/ /i/ /o/ /u/ and a long sound, /A/ /E/ /I/ /O/ /U/.

Show the flashcards and ask: What sound do you hear in the middle of the words: space, gate, save?

Vocab Activity

Do the activity to review the vocabulary . Write the following words on the board: advice, arrive, gate,
ice, life, line, rice, space, suitcase, take (a photo), use, wife. Read each word together with the pupils. As
you are reading the words ask pupils to point to the long vowel and the Magic e. Highlight the long
vowel in blue and the Magic E in Yellow.

Yes or No (VA #7)
Say a true or false statement about one of the words. For example: Ice is hot, or I live in a suitcase.
Have pupils say “Yes” or “No” to indicate if the sentence is true or false.
For false statements, encourage pupils to correct the sentence.
Repeat to practice all the words.
