Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): answer, flight, high, knee, know, light,
night, tonight, anyone, anything, anywhere, dry, everywhere, ready, try, you, young
•
Mime Game (VA #1)
Act out a word or phrase and have the pupils guess the word you are miming.
Have the pupil who guessed correctly come to the board to play the next round. Play several rounds
to practice the words.
The activity can be done as a whole class or as a team/small group competition.

Ready to Read – Sounds of Y

Remind pupils that the letter Y makes the sound /y/. When the letter Y is at the beginning of a word, it
makes the /y/ sound in words like young, yes.

Remind pupils that the letter Y can make two additional sounds.
When the letter Y is at the end of a one-syllable word, it makes the long /I/ sound in words like try,
dry.
When the letter is at the end of a two-syllable word, it makes the long /E/ sound in words like
friendly, candy.
