Before teaching the grammar form, tell pupils that in English we have a few ways to talk about
possession.
•
Tell pupils that they will learn two more ways to say that something belongs to someone. Ask pupils to
look at the sentences in the Course Book.
•
Ask pupils to determine what they think ‘s means in each sentence.
Introduce the Possessive ‘s.
•
Remind pupils of the uses of the verb to have (have/has) to talk about possession that they learned
in unit 1. Give the example: Alex has a dog.
Explain that another way to talk about something that someone has in English is to add ‘s to noun or
person’s name.
Give a couple example sentences to demonstrate the possessive ‘s: Alex has a dog. This is Alex’s dog.
The girl has a bicycle. This is the girl’s bicycle.

Remind pupils to use the Grammar section on the page to help them with the following tasks.

Have pupils match the phrases to the correct picture.
