Vocab Activity

Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): difficult, kitchen, living room, dining
room, bedroom, floor, swimming pool, across, road, whole, together.

Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.

Picture This (VA #13)
Choose a word from the reviewed words. Don't tell the pupil the word you chose. Begin drawing the
word on the board. Have the pupils guess which word you are drawing.
Have the pupil who guessed correctly come to the board to play the next round. Play several rounds
to practice the words.
The activity can be done as a whole class or as a team/small group competition.

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: come home, on the/your left/right, the ground floor.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on page 40.
Discuss and elicit from pupils what is on your left/right in the classroom, what is on the left/right
when you walk into your house, etc.
Have pupils complete the sentence about themselves: When I come home, I like to…

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is a social media post and point out the
features of the text type (username, photos, captions).
Have pupils look at the text and make predictions about the type of information in the text based on
the pictures and the text type.

Read the first two posts together with the pupils (two panels).

After reading, ask the pupils what they know about Zoya and her new house. Elicit what the pupils have
learned from reading the text.
Ask pupils to give a personal response: Have you ever moved to a new house/new
neighborhood/new city? How did you feel about it? Discuss how their experiences compare to
Zoya’s experience.
