Word Cloud (VA #15)
Create and show a word cloud with the review words. Use a word cloud
generator tool like https://www.wordclouds.com/, or use the one provided.
Divide the class into two teams and have the pupils line up in two rows.
Say a word in the word cloud and have the first pupil in each row (one from
each team) come to the board and point to the word as quickly as possible.
The faster team receives a point.
Repeat to practice all the words and so all pupils have a chance to play.
To make the game more challenging, give a clue rather than saying the word.
For example: You wear these to help you see. (Pupils must point to
“glasses”.)

Review

Review the vocabulary using the word cards: bathroom, clean, dry, mirror, wash, water, wet.

Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit: bathroom
•
Ask different pupils: Where do you brush your teeth? Where do you wash your face? Do you look in the
mirror when you brush your teeth/wash your face?
New

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: bath, hang, put away, really, shower, soap, tidy, toilet,
toothbrush, towel.
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit any logical response, including: things in the
bathroom, clean, etc.
Ask: What can you put away? (Elicit: put away clothes, put away toys, put away your phone, etc.)
What can you hang? (Elicit: hang a towel, hang your coat, hang a picture, etc.)
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 48/49.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – Phonics Review
•
Tell pupils that the letters ‘sh’ in a word make the sound /sh/ in English, as in the words: shower,
toothbrush.
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: shower, toothbrush

Ask: How many parts (syllables) does the word ‘shower’ have? (Elicit: 2)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /show/ /er/ ‘shower’
Have the pupils say and clap the syllables with you.
Repeat for the word ‘toothbrush’.
Elicit other words pupils know with this sound (she, English, fish, wash, etc.)
