Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): across, amazing, bath, comfortable,
dining room, dishes, drawer, floor, fork, ground floor, hang, hill, jeans, knife, pretty, raincoat,
refrigerator, roof, shower, spoon, stove, suit, swimming pool, tidy, top, upstairs, village, whole, wide.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
BINGO (VA #3)
Have pupils draw a 3x3 grid in their notebooks (creating 9 squares) and write any review word they
choose in the squares.
Play BINGO by saying a word and have pupils mark if they have that word on their BINGO grid.
Record the words you say on the board.
Continue saying words until a pupil gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) and
calls: BINGO! Check the winning words against the list on the board.

Vocab Activity – Pre-Reading
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): amazing, bathroom, bedroom,
comfortable, different, downstairs, floor, kitchen, room, upstairs.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
•
Word Search (VA #18)
For each word, have pupils work with a partner or small group to scan the story on pages 50-55 in
their Course Books for the word. Have pupils write down where they found each word (page and
panel number). Tell pupils that they can use the pictures in the story as clues to help them.
More than one instance of some words is possible. Some words may appear in plural form.
Pre-Reading
•
Show the story My Dream House. Before reading, have pupils look at story and make predictions about
what will happen.
•
Discuss the text type of the story. Determine that it is a journal entry and point out the features of the
text type (date of the journal entry, the words “Dear Journal”). Have pupils make predictions about who
the writer is.
•
Have the pupils look at the “Amazing Houses” image. Ask: What do you think this is about? (Elicit: A TV
show about amazing houses.) Ask: What are your ideas for an amazing house? Tell me about your dream
house. Explain the concept of “dream house”. Use L1 if needed.
